The International Movement
Well, I guess it’s not really international yet. You couldn’t even call it a movement. But every movement needs a leader, and I have heard the call. So I step to the front of this parade and, with head held high, shoulders back, and chest thrust forward, I march to the beat of a different drummer. What? Oh sorry got a little carried away there I kinda like the sound of my voice. But as a wise man once told me, a leader needs to look behind and see who is following. If there’s nobody there, you’re just a guy who walks funny.
The Acronym
I’ve been talking about this idea for a minute and even came up with a cool abbreviation: B10; because it leads to the question B10 what? But then we designed a cool logo with the ten fingers and used the palm and the thumb to form the abstract letters B and E. Can you see it? Add to that the palms are facing up so it’s as if you are looking into your own hands asking “how can I be better?” or “what can I do to be10% better? And last but not least toss in the idea that hands also represent “action” or “doing” so you put all those things together and you’ve got one cool tattoo. Ohhh yeaaaah.
A Co-opted Slogan
About three years ago, I was telling my neighbor Terry about my idea, and he didn’t catch my vision. When I told him we were going to change the world with it, he said, “You can’t do that.” I shot right back at him, “Yes We Can!” Well you can imagine my surprise when a certain politician co-opted the slogan and it became a rallying cry for his campaign. It worked! That guy now lives in the White House. Me, I still live next door to Terry.
And finally a Song
Well, I don’t have an actual song yet, but I do have a melody running around in my head. I’m no musician, but I’m pretty sure it has an F-sharp or is that a B-flat? Anyway, the idea was to hum a few bars of it for Prince or Fergie or Coldplay and see if they could transcribe it and polish it into a classic or number-1 hit or a ringtone at least. But I can’t seem to get a call back. If either one of my readers happen to know Fergalicious or our Purple Highness for that matter India Arie, will.i.am, Raphael Saadiq, Alicia Keys or even a union electrician who has worked on their road show, have their people call my people. simplylarry@be10percentbetter.com 10% at a time.
